Tonight I let the kids watch a free On Demand movie from Comcast. We chose Matilda and Kenzie really loved it (Kaden kept saying, "I am not getting this!" so it was a little old for him.) It was just such a blast from the past for me because Roald Dahl was the author that first got me really "into" literature. My 2nd Grade teacher was Mrs. Nurnie and she was passionate about Roald Dahl and her favorite book was Matilda. She read it aloud to the class bit by bit each day. I was telling Kenzie tonight that Mrs. Nurnie even dressed up like the Trunchbull for halloween and I rememer thinking it was the coolest thing ever. After reading Matilda I read The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,The Twits, The Witches (another favorite of mine) and then some of his non-fiction like Boy. I actually think that my experience in 2nd grade played a significant role in my decision to major in English and become an English teacher. So all that to say that I was sooo excited when Kenzie told me she'd really like to read Matilda. She wanted to know if if has long or short chapters. :) She is doing awesome with her reading, but at over 200 pages, I think we will be reading it together. I can't wait!
