1985 to now

Let's compare 1985 to now. Just listen to Flo Rida's version of the same song first done in 1985 by Dead or Alive. I wonder what will happen when this song is remade in 24 more years (2034 for those of you without a calculator nearby).

2 things... Music is clearly better, the 80's were a tough time for music. Lyrics however - not so much. Actually, I'm one of those very-white people that can't understand a single word that Flo Rida says during the verses, so the lyrics are probably even worse than I can understand. But why can't anyone (other than Will Smith) put out music with a good beat - like Flo Rida - and still have slightly tolerable lyrics. Will no one by a CD if it's not littered with sex and profanity? And yes, I know Will Smith was like 15 years ago, but I couldn't come up with a better example.

Side note - Monica brought to my attention that Flo Rida is derived from "Florida," the state where Flo Rida resides (quite clever if you ask me). I guess if things start getting real bad in the economy Monica and I can just start a rap band called Q Town. But we'd probably have to sing about sex, drugs, guns, and ho's to sell anything.
